The Friends organization believes that the story of our Soldiers, their families, and supporters must be preserved to educate and inspire future generations of Americans. The museum also features approximately an acre of outdoor exhibits which include a UH-1 "Huey" Helicopter, various experimental vehicle prototypes and armored vehicles.The Friends of the Fort Lewis Military Museum was organized in 1973 to provide volunteers, monetary assistance, and encouragement for the Lewis Army Museum. The Lewis Gallery interprets the establishment of Camp Lewis and the history of Fort Lewis over the years. Beginning with Lewis and Clark's exploration of the far west and continuing through the American Lake Maneuvers of the early 20th century. The Pacific Northwest Gallery documents the role of the United States Army in developing the Pacific Northwest. New exhibits feature full-scale dioramas, as well as immersive and interactive experiences.
